(Photo by Forrest Adams) Kids from the Springfield neighborhood in Chanhassen held a lemonade stand and bake sale Thursday afternoon to raise funds for Feed My Starving Children.
They were responding to a challenge from their vacation bible school leaders at Westwood Church to find creative ways to raise funds for the cause. As of Thursday, the more than 850 kids in VBS had raised about $3,000.

Snap Fitness to open club in India


Snap Fitness, Inc., the rapidly growing franchisor of compact, 24/7 express fitness clubs, today announced it will open new clubs in Bangalore and Mumbai, India. The new clubs will be owned and operated by Force Fitness India Pvt. Ltd., an experienced area developer of fitness franchises in India, according to a business news report.

Ballfield partnership on council consent agenda


Approval of the master agreement between the City of Chanhassen and Independent School District 112 regarding use of athletic fields at Chanhassen High School is on the city council consent agenda.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 28, at 7 p.m. The agreement involves a city investment of $600,000 to improve the district's baseball/softball stadium complex. The city investment would come from a surplus of park dedication funds. In return, the city would gain second-priority scheduling for all of the district's new athletic fields.

14,828 view 'extreme' races at Canterbury

Canterbury Park’s Extreme Race Day On Sunday featured horses racing at unique distances, camels galloping down the stretch, ostriches zig-zagging to the finish line, and a pair of $50,000 stakes.

Playing to a crowd of 14,828, the second annual event included Canterbury’s shortest race at 100 yards, the Dash in a Flash, won by Wheely Fast; and its longest race at 2 and 1/16 miles, won by Lord Kipling.

Chaska administrator moving on


Chaska City Administrator David Pokorney announced his resignation Monday night. He will be leaving his position with the city as of Aug. 4.

Pokorney told the council that he wanted to leave while the city was at its peak. His departure will be on good terms.

The council voted reluctantly to accept Pokorney's resignation Monday night. Matt Podhradsky was subsequently appointed interim city administrator. Pokorney will remain on the city payroll as a part-time employee while the city seeks his replacement.
