Firefighters give their respectJuly 24, 2008 - 11:06amOn July 24, firefighters from throughout the region came to give their respect to Jerome Dauwalter, 61, who died on July 19. Dauwalter served as the Carver fire chief for 13 years, and was a member of the department for 34 years. Fire engines from Carver, Chaska, Shakopee, Norwood Young America, and Waconia lined Second and Pine streets near Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Chaska, where the service was held. Pictured at right is Carver’s vintage fire truck, which carried Dauwalter’s casket to the church.
Mayor announces re-election bidJuly 24, 2008 - 10:16amGary Van Eyll will seek a fourth term as mayor of Chaska. He announced his bid for re-election last week. He will face Chaska City Councilor Jay Rohe, who announced his candidacy in April. Van Eyll, 57, said he hope his re-election would “keep stability” in the city. He has served as mayor of Chaska for the last six years. Prior to that, he spent four years on the council and was a member of the Chaska Fire Department for 20 years, including several years as Fire Chief.
