Hutchinson Leader

Volleyball team improves to 2-0

Hutchinson had little trouble from non-conference foe Annandale, winning the home opener 3-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The scores were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-18.
A balanced attack that saw eight different players record a kill, Hutchinson had no trouble in the first game, extending a 4-3 lead to 12-3 with Mackenzie Piechowski at the serve. When Annandale was able to get into system, the Tiger defense at the net was relentless.
Senior Carissa scored the final point on a kill for the 25-11 win.

Six Minutes Over Hutchinson: Red rooster days and dark knights

This week's Labor Day edition of "Six Minutes Over Hutchinson" finds Kay and Jorge grappling with profound questions: Why are folks from Dassel a bunch of pagans? How could anyone not have liked "The Dark Knight?"
The latter question finds your normally genial hosts going head-to-head. Things get ugly as harsh words give way to guttural growls. It ain't pretty, but we hope it's more entertaining then watching semis barrel every which way through our new roundabout.

Reloading, not rebuilding - Tiger volleyball preview

The 2008 Tigers volleyball team has a new motto — ‘Go hard or go home.’ Through two weeks of practice, no one is ready to walk out of the door.
Faced with replacing five starters from a year ago, Hutchinson isn’t exactly in rebuild mode. In fact, the Tigers figure to be reloading with a group of girls that have been waiting for their shot.
With that in mind, Hutchinson still has a goal of playing post-season volleyball in November.

Ron Shimanski aims to hold line on spending

This fall will find Republican State Rep. Ron Shimanski working his proverbial tail off. It’s not just election season: It’s apple picking time.
Shimanski, who owns and operates an orchard northwest of Silver Lake, has been doorknocking close to home, but has avoided hitting Hutchinson until after the primary election. With a full slate of City Council and County Board candidates pounding the pavement prior to the Sept. 9 vote, Shimanski doesn’t want his message to get lost in the din.
