Volleyball team wins own tournament


The Shakopee Sabers volleyball team won its own tournament on Saturday.

The Sabers defeated St. Cloud Cathedral, 25-12, 25-16 in the championship game of the Shakopee Invitational.

To get to the title match, Shakopee defeated Anoka, 25-20, 25-20, Rochester Mayo, 25-8, 25-15, Eagan, 25-14, 25-19 and Bethlehem Academy, 25-16, 25-20.

Sabers fall to New Prague


The Shakopee football lteam ost its first game of the season on Friday and fell to 1-1 on the season.

New Prague defeated Shakopee 28-14 after jumping out to a 28-0 lead in the third quarter.

The Trojans scored a touchdown in the first and second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second quarter touchdown was an interception return from 55 yards away.

In the third quarter, they scored two more times to extend their lead to 28-0.

The Shakopee football team will attempt to win their second straight game tonight as they travel to New Prague for their first Missota Conference game of the year. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Locals soaked in GOP Convention

As Minneapolis and St. Paul took in tens of thousands of guests for the Republican National Convention, Scott County opened up its jail and local police departments sent some of their finest to help with the mêlée.

The Scott County Jail took in 60 inmates from Hennepin County, which created room there in case arrests are made during political protests.
